On June 24th ACCIONA’s teams achieved the milestone breakthrough as they connected Pátio Morro Grande to the future Brasilândia Station.
The connection of the tunnels is important for the project as it integrates the heart of the operation of Line 6, where the Operational Control Center (CCO) is located, in the Morro Grande Courtyard, to the network of tunnels of the line.
The Orange Line is the largest public-private infrastructure project under development in Latin America and the largest infrastructure project in ACCIONA’s history.
The project includes 15.3 kilometres of tunnels, the construction of 15 stations and it utilizing 2 tunnel boring machines (TBMs).
The construction period was projected to generate 9,000 jobs and once completed is expected to serve 633,000 passengers per day.
As part of their commitment to gender equality and inclusion ACCIONA committed to a target of up to 12% of female labour in different jobs within this project.
The project currently employs more than 500 women and in the case of the segment lining ring factory factory, 70% of the production line is made up of female workers. In total, it will manufacture more than 60,000 new segments to construct the line, which is expected to open in 2025.
